Banquet Guest Speakers Shine in Florida

March 19, 2017

The Saint Vincent College Bearcats have been selected as the preseason favorite to repeat as the winner of the PAC's championship tournament. Leading the way during their annual Florida spring training trip were two Pittsburgh Power alumnae.

Kelly Flaherty and Kelsey Hunter both spoke very eloquently at the Meet The Team Banquet on February 20th about what softball meant to them growing up playing for the Pittsburgh Power. Thereafter, they joined their team to travel to Florida for spring training.

In a 14-0 win while in Florida, sophomore Kelly Flaherty picked up the shutout victory in the circle. Flaherty allowed just two hits and struck out seven over five innings of play. In 2016, Kelly was named to the PAC All-Tournament Team while appearing in 36 games as a freshman, making 27 starts. Kelly hit .338 with five doubles, a triple, 17 runs and 13 runs batted in. Kelly's greatest moment occurred when she scored the title-clinching run to help give the Bearcats' their first ever PAC Tournament Championship and berth to the NCAA Tournament. Good luck to Kelly this season.

Kelsey Hunter did not take very long to get back into the swing of things, hitting her first homerun of the season in game two in Florida. After hitting her bomb, she said "glad I hit that homerun so I did not have to run the bases. We all know I cannot run!" In 2016, Kelsey was named Second-Team All-PAC as a freshman. Kelsey started 32 games in her first season, maintaining a .354 batting average while producing a pair of home runs. Kelsey holds a .494 slugging percentage and has a .991 fielding percentage behind the plate, while scoring 11 runs and also tallied five doubles. Best of luck to Kelsey during her sophomore season.
