Win The Battle Shorty

January 1, 2011

This season, when Power teams take the field, their helmets will be a little more special than normal. In addition to the iconic Power lightning bolts, this year each girl will also have a yellow ribbon to show their support for a team mate in need.

Taylor "Shorty" Finnegan, 12, was recently diagnosed with osteogenic sarcoma, a type of bone cancer. After receiving treatments of chemotherapy at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC, Taylor had surgery in late December 2010 to remove the tumor in her leg and is following up that procedure with additional chemotherapy.

Taylor is in sixth grade at Neil Armstrong Middle School. She is the daughter of Lisa and Tom Finnegan, of Bethel Park. Lisa works for the Sanford Brown Institute in Pittsburgh, and Tom works for the borough of Bethel Park. Tom is also the manager for the Finnegan 12U team. All of us here at Power look forward to the day Taylor can return to his lineup card.

This page will serve as a place where we keep you informed of Taylor’s progress, so check back for updates.

We are holding another Blood Drive for Taylor. Taylor is doing well, but she will be having another surgery after she finishes up her treatments. Please help us to make sure that there is blood available for Taylor as well as making sure that there is blood available for others in need. If you are able to pre-register that will help us to make sure that we have enough people there to take the blood and to get people through quickly. It is so easy and only takes a little bit of time. Please, please, if you are able, please come and help us!

Email me or call me and let me know what time you would like to donate and I will register you. Hope to see you on the 21st!

When:
Saturday, May 21st from 8am to 2pm

Where:
Neil Armstrong Middle School Gymnasium
5800 Murray Avenue
Bethel Park, PA

As most of you know, "Shorty's" surgery went fantastic and rehabilitation is going very well. Taylor has eight chemotherapy treatments left between now and the end of May, so the "count down" is on! The date has not yet been set, but following treatments "Shorty" will have have her follow up tendon transfer surgery.

Thank You,
Tom Finnegan

All Power Players and Families,

I was able to see and thank many of you personally at the night at the races, but for those I didn't and again for those I did, THANK YOU!! This comes from the bottom of all of our hearts. The prayers, cards and gifts have been more than we could have ever imagined. The smile Taylor gets when she opens up and reads her cards (or as she calls it, fan mail!) is unbelievable. Hopefully you all realize that you are a huge part of why she is handling this as well as she is. Seeing her smile, even though it causes us to cry sometimes, and knowing this many people care and are thinking of her is...well...AWESOME! We wish you all a Happy, Safe and Healthy Holiday Season.

Thank You,

The Finnegan's
Taylor "Shorty", Tom, Lisa and Amber
