2009 Power College Showcase

Pittsburgh Power Softball held its annual College Showcase on Sunday, August 30th at Blueberry Hill Park. Each year, this event brings together Power players entering their junior and senior years in high school with college coaches looking to fill roster spots. This year’s event had an exceptional turnout with 65 Power players participating and 31 college coaches representing 23 schools attending.

The Power players were put through a battery of drills including base running, throwing, batting and fielding. Specialty positions such as pitching and catching also had separate evaluations. The results of the pitching speed, catcher "Pop" times, base running times and overhand throw speeds are available here.

The showcase concluded with a question and answer session where the college coaches fielded questions from the Power players, parents and coaches. The questions covered a wide range of subjects including an overview of the recruiting process and rules, tips on making contact with the college coach and the academic expectations of the freshman college athlete. The answers were often fielded by a number of coaches as they represented both NCAA and NAIA affiliated schools as well as all three divisions of NCAA athletics. Coaches also took the opportunity to give the players advice on their high school academics and other off-field activities that would help them achieve their goals.

Pittsburgh Power would like to thank the involvement of the coaches from the following schools that made this year’s showcase a success:

The Power also thanks the volunteers that made the showcase happen.
